Siliguri Mango Festival Sees World's Costliest Miyazaki Mango

It's no secret that people in India adore mangoes. Yummy variants of the fruit may be found all throughout the country, from the southern Bainganpalli to the northern Dussehri, and from the western Alphonso to the eastern Langda. The 'King of Fruits' is included in numerous Indian dishes, from beverages to sweets and even savoury fare. The most expensive mangoes in the world come from Japan, the Miyazaki mango, which is grown in the city of Miyazaki.

Although there are many mango kinds available, the 'Miyazaki' is often considered to be the finest and most expensive mango in the world. The mango was featured in the seventh instalment of Siliguri's three-day-long- Mango Festival. It sells for an astounding Rs 2.75 lakh per kilogram on the International market. The festival's opening night was June 9, and it was hosted by the Modella Caretaker Centre & School (MCCS) and the Association for Conservation & Tourism (ACT). Over 262 different kinds of mangoes will be on show at the festival, all in honour of the fruit's tremendous diversity.

The Miyazaki region of Japan is where these mangoes were first cultivated, hence the name. They often have a sugar level of 15 percent or higher. A recent tweet by ANI regarding this particular mango type has gone viral. The unusual mango has captured the attention of many people, as evidenced by the over 600K views, thousands of likes, and hundreds of comments the post has received.

The months of April through August constitute the prime growing period for this particular mango cultivar. As the Miyazaki mango ripens, it changes in a fascinating way. Until it reaches its full ripeness, it appears purple. However, once it reaches that point, it turns a fiery red. Growing conditions for the Miyazaki mango include an abundance of sunshine, warmth, and rain. Each mango is surrounded by a protective net that lets in just the right amount of sunlight to ripen it evenly and create its distinctive shape. Mango cultivation reportedly began in the city of Miyazaki in 1984.

In addition to being grown in Japan, the Miyazaki mango is also cultivated in a number of other nations that have climates that are suitable for its growth. This encompasses countries like Thailand and the Philippines, as well as India. In a study that was published not too long ago, it was mentioned that an orchardist couple in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, cultivating the Miyazaki kind of mango on their farm. They were forced to hire four security guards and seven dogs in order to prevent the rare mangoes from being taken by thieves.
