Food and technology are rapidly converging with each other and we have seen several testimonies of this in the recent past. From several machines and equipment that are being invented and put to use in restaurants to reduce contact with customers, to robots making pizzas, we’ve seen advancement at several stages in the hospitality sector already.

In February 2022, we even saw a robot delivering food to the contingents and participants at the Winter Olympics. And now, it seems like robots and machines are going to be our new-age chefs as well! The world's first-ever burger vending machine has now been launched in Jersey City, New Jersey, to shell out hot and juicy burgers in a matter of just six minutes, and we are wondering what’s next? Take a look at RoboBurger's Instagram post:

RoboBurger is the world's first plug-in burger chef in a box that can cook a burger from scratch at just the press of a button. Priced at $6.99 (approximately ₹530), the burgers are prepared with the help of an inbuilt robot mechanism that uses a five-step process similar to restaurants. It starts with toasting the buns and grilling the patty then followed by dispensing the selected condiments, and finally assembling everything together.

The burger vending machine can fit in an area of just 12 square feet and can be plugged into a regular wall socket, and has currently been installed in Newport Centre, a mall in New Jersey. The company was founded in 2019 by Audley, Dan and Andy, who are passionate about engineering, robotics and delicious burgers as stated on their official website. The founding members have plans to expand its reach to airports, colleges, offices, and even military bases, according to Fox29.

While the burger vending machine does not require people to operate it, there are some people present to work behind the scenes to ensure proper functioning of the machine. "For further safety, the machine will shut down if something goes wrong. For example, if the power goes out and the refrigeration system shuts off, RoboBurger won't sell another burger until the machine has been checked," stated a report by USA Today.

The idea behind the burger vending machine was conceived to provide a hot meal with a contactless experience at any time 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So, no more waiting for your favourite restaurant to open in the morning for your favourite juicy burger or go hunting for a burger joint in the middle of night to sate your cravings!
