Cake-e-Shwari By Moumita Gupta Sharma

Known for its bestsellers like Rasamalai Cake, Rabdi Cake, Fresh Mango Cake, Nolen gur Cake, and Calcutta Christmas Cake, Cake-e-Shwari has been creating magic since 2020. Moumita Gupta Sharma, the owner, shares her journey from being a former IT employee to a passionate home baker.

As she mentioned, "After 4 years in the IT industry, I left my job in 2017 to start my own boutique and work independently. The journey began beautifully, and things were going quite well. But 2020 brought the biggest setback with the COVID-19 outbreak. Our boutique was shut down. One morning, amidst all that heaviness, I thought that chocolates have a way of bringing happiness, even in difficult times. That’s when I decided to start making chocolates and cupcakes from home.

After some days, a known person called me and requested a home-baked cake. That request became the biggest challenge for me because I barely had the proper tools for baking or frosting a cake. But I still took the chance. This was the moment when I turned my passion for baking into a profession."

Though the beginning was quite smooth, it took a lot of effort to keep their name intact in the market. Moumita shared, "When I started Cake-e-Shwari, one thought constantly stayed in my mind -”Why would customers choose mine?” I knew I needed a unique identity to truly stand out. That thought led me towards creating fusion cakes and desserts - a beautiful blend of Indian flavours with international desserts. That’s how creations like NolenGur Tres Leches, Mango Tiramisu, Jamun-e-Rabdi Trifle, Motichoor Mousse, Mishti Doi Cheesecake, and many more came to life."

From the very beginning, Moumita decided that quality would always matter more than quantity. Before creating any new item, she always thinks from a customer’s perspective and with that mindset, every single dessert is prepared with utmost care, honesty, and attention to detail. "I believe thoughtful flavours, fusion concepts, and uncompromised quality have become the true USP and identity of Cake-e-Shwari," she added.

About the roadblocks she has been facing while being in professional baking, Moumita mentioned that delivery is the hardest thing for a bakery. "The cakes and desserts I make are very fragile, and the roads and weather in Kolkata are not great for delivering cakes. I realised in the process that making a good cake is only half the job; getting it to the right place safely is also very important. I didn't want to let my customers down, so I decided to put together my own delivery team. As soon as a cake leaves my bakery, it should be fresh, beautiful, and whole when it gets to the customer."
