There’s no better way to celebrate Eid al-Adha than to make a delicious plate of Mewa Ka Zarda. Home Chef Sonia Sarpal gives us the perfect dessert for Bakrid, for relishing along with your friends and family. Mewa Ka Zarda is a rich baked rice pudding that will blow your taste buds away!

Ingredients: 

Basmati rice ( soaked for 1 hour) - 1 cup 

Milk - 2 cup 

Sugar - 1 cup 

Oil - 1/2 cup 

Ground green cardamom - 1 tsp 

Ground nutmeg - 1/4 tsp 

Ground mace - 1/4 tsp 

Saffron threads soaked in 2 tbsp hot milk - 1/2 tsp 

Chironji (coarsely ground) - 1 tbsp 

Almonds - 10

Cashews - 10

Raisins - 10

Method: 

In a bowl, take some Basmati rice and rinse and soak it. 

In a pan, heat some oil. Add the drained rice and sauté for three minutes. 

Add milk to the pan and cook until the rice is tender and the milk is absorbed. Cover the pan and cook. 

Next, add ground cardamom, nutmeg and mace. Add saffron threads. Add the raisins, cashews and almonds. Add some chironji and sugar and mix gently. 

Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and add food colour and mewa. 

Cover and bake at 100° c for 15 mins. Your dish is now ready!
