Viral: Chocolate Masala Sweet Corn Has Left The Netizens Cringing

Street food and Indian cuisine are quite synonymous with each other. It has to be, after all, every nook and corner of the country has some sort of street food that the locals, as well as tourists, love gorging on. From Dilli ki chaat to Mumbai ka Vada pav, Karnataka’s Churumuri or Momos of the northeast, one is bound to find staple street food in every part.  And with rising competition, street food vendors are coming up with unique recipes and ways to stand out. Be it gol gappe or dahi vada, all it takes is a unique twist to make many of these go viral online. If you are a fan of masala sweet corn that we find most commonly around the monsoon season, then a video going viral on the internet is going to shock you. A street vendor gave his personal twist to corn on the cob, aka ‘bhutta’, and bhutta lovers aren’t too happy it seems. Usually, corn on the cob is seasoned with lots of masala, butter and lemon but this vendor went out of his way and drizzled oodles of chocolate on top. Yes, you read that right. Take a look:

In the video shared by blogger Anikait Luthra on Instagram, the vendor generously spreads butter on the sweet corn first. He then starts to drizzle chocolate sauce followed by cream and a host of seasoning to the cob which included an array of masalas. Finally, he garnishes the corn with lemon juice and then rubbed the corn up and down on the plate so that the chocolate sauce and cream mix with the lemon juice and seasoning well.

The Instagram reel has garnered 1.5 million views and over 33k likes as of now. But the chocolate masala corn has left the netizens very confused. The combination of utterly sweet chocolate sauce with cream and savoury masalas and tarty lemon juice seems to have made no sense to the foodies. The excess use of chocolate and cheese in almost every street food has slowly started to have opposition as one user also asked sarcastically in a comment “cheese is missing”.

Classic corn on cob is all about the seasoning of chat masala, salt, chilli and lemon, and this is why this odd combination of seasoning in the street vendor’s video has irked the street food lovers. What do you have to say about this weird combination of seasoning? Would you try it? Let us know.

Meanwhile you can also try a classic boiled corn on the cob at home too. Here’s the recipe.
