Vir Das's Confession About Indian Thali Is All Things Relatable

Let’s just admit that no matter where an Indian lives, the desi inside him never goes away. Especially when it comes to food. No matter how much we drool over burgers, pizzas or momos, we would eventually fall back to Dal-Chawal for comfort. Another thing that we cannot ever leave is the kind of cutlery. Steel crockery and tableware over anything else always, isn’t that correct? I’m yet to come across an Indian home which do not use steel glasses to drink water. The humble stainless-steel thali too is an integral part of the Indian kitchen and regardless of the fact if we still use it or not, we all might still be having one at home. Actor-comedian Vir Das recently took to social media to share a similar sentiment about the Indian thali with a hilarious confession. Sharing a picture of the Thali full with a Dal in the centre, Bhindi in one section and Gobhi in another, he said that he ate in the Thali even while travelling abroad. Take a look:

The post shared on Twitter by @thevirdas instantly received thousands of likes and comments. Vir Das wrote in his tweet, "OCD confession. I can't eat without this thaali." He further explained how he used the steel thali even while travelling abroad and checked it into his travel luggage. "Travels the world with me. Fits nicely in check-in, easy wash instead of multiple dishes, works for desi food/sushi/Italian all cuisines, and great for standing at a party where people can't balance bowls in fancy plates," he added.

As soon as he shared his confession, Desi Twitter was quick to react and related like nothing else. People shared their own love for the Thali and posted pictures too. While many users pointed out how reusing the Thali was better for the environment as well, some also said that this Thali was great for portion control.

Stainless-steel Thali hasn’t received this much love for the first time. In August 2021, businessman Anand Mahindra took to Twitter to share a picture of a woman spotted in New York carrying a stainless steel dabba to work. The post went viral in no time and garnered a host of reactions from users. What did you think about the posts for the humble stainless-steel thali? Let us know your thoughts.
