UK’s Indian Restaurant Jamavar Bags Michelin Plaque

If you have ever been to London or are privy to the food culture of the city, you’d perhaps know of city’s love for Indian food. It is not difficult to find an authentic Indian restaurant in the city, but only a few can claim a loyal fan following like that of Jamavar. The restaurant has found fans even in celebrities like Sonam Kapoor, who never misses a chance to express her love for the contemporary Indian fare of the restaurant. Recently, Jamavar got awarded with a Michelin plaque, adding another feather to its already loaded hot. It must be recalled that the restaurant has been honoured with one Michelin star earlier as well. It was also listed in The Great Britain and Ireland Michelin Guide 2022, and now, it has received the much-coveted Michelin plaque.

Jamavar London, the first outlet of the chain oversees, was started by father-daughter duo, Dinesh and Samyukta Nair. The co-founders, along with a team of skilled leaders conceptualised the Indian fine dining restaurant, which is now a popular hotspot on Mayfair’s renowned Mount street.  

The founder of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts in India opened the first-ever Jamavar in The Leela Palace Bengaluru in 2001. The restaurant won many accolades and appreciation for its delicious Indian fare, so much so, that Forbes USA named it among the World’s Top 10 Power Dining Spots. In a few years, five more restaurants opened in different cities in India, Jamavar soon became synonymous with luxurious, pan-Indian cuisine celebrating India’s diverse food culture. Jamavar London became the first international outlet to open doors in 2016. And then in 2021, Doha got its first-ever Jamavar. The restauarant gets ist name from the 16th-century lace shawls of Kashmir, which were also called Jamavar, and were a major attraction among tourists, travelers and traders.
