To understand better how to make the best Pina Colada (Without Alcohol) Mocktail, you first need to understand the origins of the drink. Pina Colada (Without Alcohol) Mocktail was invented in Puerto Rico. The words Pina Colada literally mean ‘strained pineapple’ in Spanish, making it a pineapple-first drink. So, the fresher the pineapples you use to make Pina Colada (Without Alcohol) Mocktail, the better. Many people use canned pineapples and pineapple to make Pina Colada (Without Alcohol) Mocktail, but let us tell you that it tastes its tropical best when fresh pineapples are used to make it.

Many Puerto Ricans believe that Pina Colada (Without Alcohol) Mocktail was invented by a nineteenth century pirate, Roberto Cofresi. Some believe it was first mentioned in a cocktail cookbook in the 1930s. Most Puerto Ricans, however, believe Pina Colada (Without Alcohol) Mocktail was invented either by Ramon Marrero at the Caribe Hilton Hotel in 1954 or Don Ramon Portas Mingot in 1963. Whoever may have invented the drink, the nation of Puerto Rico announced it to be their official drink in 1978.

Traditionally, Pina Colada is made with rum, pineapple, coconut milk and ice, and is served with a pineapple wedge and a maraschino cherry. For the Pina Colada (Without Alcohol) Mocktail, however, we won’t be using any rum at all, making it perfect for teetotalers as well.
