Tips To Cook Mushrooms (Desi Chilli Mushroom Recipe Inside)

Mushrooms are full of nutrients and are a very versatile ingredient to cook a variety of dishes with. Along with being low calorie, it is also extremely delicious and can be mixed and matched with a lot of different items to create many dishes. But cooking mushrooms right is a slightly tricky affair. It is important that the mushroom is not too chewy while being properly cooked as well. Here are some amazing tips to cook mushrooms properly.

  • Always add salt at the end of cooking, when the mushroom is already caramelized. It prevents the mushroom from being chewy. 
  • Cook mushrooms for a really long time. It releases its actual flavours only after all the liquid it releases is cooked. 
  • Do not cook the mushroom on very high or very low heat. 
  • Slice the mushrooms in medium sized pieces, not very thin. Slicing them really thin alters the texture.

  • 250 gms mushroom diced 
  • 1 sliced capsicum 
  • 2 sliced onions 
  • 10-12 chopped garlic cloves 
  • Pepper powder 
  • Salt as per taste 
  • 1 tsp soy sauce 
  • 1 tbsp chilli sauce 
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce 
  • 4-5 chopped green chillies 


  • Wash the mushrooms properly and then dice them into medium sized pieces. 
  • In a pan heat up a tablespoon of butter. 
  • Add the chopped garlic to the pan and cook till they are light golden in colour. 
  • Now add the sliced onions, capsicum and cook till the onions become mushy and brown in colour. 
  • After that, add pepper powder and one tablespoon soy sauce. 
  • Cook for three to four minutes on a medium flame. 
  • Now, add the chopped mushrooms to the onion and capsicum gravy. 
  • Let the mushrooms cook on a medium flame for 5 minutes. 
  • Now put a lid on the pan and let IT cook on low flame for 10 more minutes. 
  • Open the lid and see if all the liquid from the mushroom has dried up and they have become caramelized. 
  • Once that has happened add salt according to your taste and all the sauces. 
  • Mix well and cook for five more minutes before switching off the gas flame.
