Tilli Masala And Tilli Chana Batata

Tilli, the hindi name of goat spleen, is fried in oil along with roasted onion, tomatoes and grounded spices to serve as a perfect evening meal on the dining table during Ramadan. Tilli Masala fry is delicious and is rich in many nutrients, providing lots of health benefits. This recipe of Tilli Masala is loved by hardcore non-vegetarians and contains the perfect juiciness to let people drool over its taste. It is said that Chicken is one of the most delicious meats, but this dish has enough taste to compete with any Chicken Masala Curry or Chicken Fry. Here, sharing two recipes in this article, one is the basic Tilli Masala Fry and the other one is a fusion made of Tilli and Chana Batata, a popular snack sold on the streets of Mumbai.

Tilli Masala:

Ingredients:

  • 3 dried red chillies
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 2 green chillies
  • A fistful of coriander and mint leaves
  • 4 tbsps oil
  • 2 sliced onions
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • ½ tsp garam masala powder
  • 250 gms goat spleen

Method:

  • Roast the red chillies, cumin and coriander seeds in a pan and grind them together.
  • Grind green chillies along with coriander and mint leaves and make a paste.
  • Now, heat oil in a pan and add onions to it. 
  • Cook till it turns golden brown.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and saute for a minute.
  • Now, add the ground spices, garam masala powder and the green chilli paste.
  • Along with it add two tablespoons of water, so that the spices do not get burned.
  • Cook the masala well.
  • Pre boil the tilli (spleen) adding salt and turmeric.
  • Now, add the boiled spleen to the pan, mix it well and cook for around 5 mins.
  • Your Tilli Masala is ready to be served

  Tilli Chana Batata:


Ingredients:

  • Pressure-cooked chana
  • 3 tbsps oil
  • 1 medium-sized onion
  • 1 medium-size tomato
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tbsps gram flour
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala powder
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt, as per taste
  • 2 boiled potatoes (cut in cubes)
  • A handful of fried onions
  • Coriander and mint Leaves
  • 1 tbsp green chutney
  • 1 tbsp tamarind chutney

Method:

  • Pressure cook overnight soaked chana and keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and onions to it, saute till it becomes translucent.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and tomatoes and cook until turned mushy.
  • Now add all the spices along with salt and cook for about two minutes.
  • Add the chana and water as per consistency, mix well.
  • Cover the pan and let it cook for 15 minutes.
  • The chana masala is ready.
  • Now take a bowl, add the chana masala and boiled potatoes on the side.
  • Add the tilli fry, green and tamarind chutney, some fried onions, coriander and green leaves on the top.

The bowl of tilli chana masala is ready to be served, mix all the ingredients and enjoy.
