Being an Indian, the one thing that I have observed about the people in this country is that they work a lot through jugaad. It is a colloquial Hindi term for hacks, jugaad can be anything that helps you to pull out of a messy situation or solve a problem. India is full of makeshift solutions and innovative hacks to our problems. Perhaps, this is how we know that the country is bustling with talent. We’ve seen people cooking out of a car, making an automated scooter out of a bicycle for milk delivery and so on. Then, we have numerous unique kitchen hacks too that always come to our rescue.

We have a number of innovations to solve a host of everyday problems. And the latest addition to this list of unique hacks has been garnering a lot of attention on Twitter, so much so that even business tycoon Anand Mahindra took notice. He often uses his Twitter handle to post about the unique things that comes across. The popular micro-blogging platform by itself is full of food-related posts, out of which some are hilarious, some are educational and others inspiring. For instance, one of Mahindra’s latest posts is about a man who has created a fruit-picking tool.

In the video that he shared, a man uses a homemade fruit-picking tool to pluck fruits from a tree. He moves on to show how it was using an old bottle. He first takes a plastic bottle and slits it into four equal parts from the bottom. He then makes tiny holes in the cuts and adds strings to them to make it functional. In the end, he shows the final fruit picking tool, fully operational with which he plucks some fruits too.

Sharing the video on Twitter, Mahindra wrote, “Not an earth-shattering invention. But I’m enthusiastic because it shows a growing culture of ‘tinkering.’ America became a powerhouse of inventiveness because of the habit of many to experiment in their basement/garage workshops. Tinkerers can become Titans of innovation.” Take a look at the video here:

Ever since this video was uploaded, it has been viewed almost 597K times and has 33.9K likes. Many people have also retweeted and commented on the post. Check out some of the reactions here:

“In a campus interview, my daughter was asked about different uses of an empty plastic bottle except filling it up. She could tell a few, but this is extraordinary. I am surely making one to pick fruits from my garden.”

“Simple, elegant, and easy to make! A solution for every farmer! Innovations like this are very exciting for a young agri- entrepreneur like me! Wonderful to see your support @anandmahindra, sir!”

“The best inventions are the most simple. And they look like they are always there! #India can become the innovation country of the world if we keep pushing and ‘grabbing’ in this manner!”

Many other people have also described this invention as ‘awesome’ and ‘amazing’. Some others have reacted using emojis.
