This Makhana-Dahi Chaat Is Here To Make Dieting Fun In Summer

It is mildly frustrating indeed, the speed at which everybody is losing weight and flaunting it on their Instagram. The last two years in the pandemic have restricted most of us to our homes. While some utilized this time to sweat it out and get in shape, some had no choice but to watch their waistline expand. While working out is an essential component of a sustainable workout regime, your diet also plays a major role. Whether you are cutting carbs or upping protein, if you are disciplined enough you will see results very soon. However, before giving a total 360-degree spin to your diet, it is best to consult an expert. Drastic changes that do not bode well with your body, will do more harm than good. Protein powders and supplements may have their benefits, but they also come with a list of cons. If you are new to all this, you can start with cutting out junk and eating simple home-made food. Now home-made food does not just encompass your bland daliya and dal, there is so much in your kitchen with the help of which you can create something special each time. Take Makhanas for instance, you bought some for Navratri and then abandoned it completely. Makhanas or lotus seeds are the latest superfood that have taken the world of health and nutrition by a storm. In terms of flavour they are mild they also have a crunchy texture, which can help work as a great substitute for chips. One of the healthiest snacks we can make from foxnuts is roasted makhana, but did you know you can use the same foxnuts to make makhana ki chaat?

Indian obsession with chaat, especially in summers is nothing new. 

It is tangy, spicy and so apt for the weather too. All you need to do is mix up the makhanas with curd, chutneys and spices and you are good to go. Here’s a little recipe you will enjoy.  

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of makhana
  • 2 tsp ghee
  • 1 cup of curd
  • Dhaniya-Pudina Chutney- 1-2 Tbsp
  • Raw, chopped onions- 1Tbsp
  • Tamarind chutney- 1 Tbsp
  • Red chilly powder as required
  • Roasted cumin powder as required
  • Chaat masala powder as required
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Method:

1. Take a bowl, add curd and whisk with chutneys. Add the roasted makhanas and whisk again

2. Give everything a nice mix, then sprinkle some red chilli powder, chaat masala, roasted cumin powder on top.

3. Add raw onions, followed by coriander leaves. Make sure the coriander leaves are fresh. You can also sprinkle some sev on top.
