If you have ever visited Vaishnodevi, you would, perhaps, be aware of Katra, a town in Jammu. It is where the trek to the holy shrine of Vaishnodevi starts, and this is where you find ample restaurants and lodgings too for devotees who have come from afar. The most striking feature of restaurants in Katra is that most of them, if not all, serve only pure veg, Satvik food.
Satvik food does not even include onions and garlic, as these two pungent foods are considered to be Tamasic in nature, or foods that are heat-inducing in nature. Katra is brimming with many small and big restaurants, and now it will also see its first ever Burger King restaurant that will be serving ‘all-veg, no-onion, and no-garlic’ food.
Katra sees scores of devotees of Goddess Vaishno Devi. Before starting the trek or during it, most people do not like to eat meat. Hence, keeping meaty burgers on the menu makes little sense. To win more customers and ensure they do not feel uncomfortable, Burger King has gone a step ahead, by removing onion and garlic from their menu.
This 100% vegetarian menu comprises mouth-watering offerings like Crispy Veg burger, Veg Volcano, Indie Masala Whopper, BK Café coffee and other beverages. The menu has been designed by chefs and experts to ensure maximum taste and flavour, while keeping in line with the sentiments of devotees. In addition to the Katra restaurant, the chain has also launched two veg restaurants, one each in Mathura and Haridwar. Both are again big pilgrimage sites for Hindus.
A few days ago, it was announced that Vande Bharat Express, the semi-high-speed train running from New Delhi to Katra, will have a pure vegetarian menu. This will make it the first Indian train to go all veg. The Vande Bharat Express was launched in the year 2019, to ease travel to Katra for devotees who come from Delhi and neighbouring cities.
