One of the most appetising snacks that you can have when you’re feeling hungry is chicken wings. Tossed in a sweet, savoury and sticky sauce, these appetisers are a sure shot hit with foodies. Did you know that this version of cooking chicken wings in a sweet spicy sauce came from a fortunate coincidence? The idea of cooking wings in hot sauce dates back to 1964. This dish originated in the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York. One evening, Teressa Bellissimo, co-owner of the bar, cooked leftover chicken wings in hot sauce as a late-night snack for her son and his friends. The kids liked them so much that Teressa decided to put the wings, tossed in hot sauce, on the menu the next day.  Served with celery slices and bleu cheese sauce, “Buffalo Wings” (an alternative term used for unbreaded chicken wings tossed in sauce) were soon an instant hit with every customer. What turned out as a happy accident of a mother cooking a mid-night snack for her kid, gave birth to a dish that was soon to be enjoyed by many.

Today, chicken wings can be found on the menu of restaurants of Asian cuisine as well. However, this comes with a few culinary twists. In India, this dish is relished as an appetiser along with a hot bowl of soup, before the main-course. Chicken wings are a hit with many people. Did you know that the world-record for most chicken wings eaten ever is 444. In an eating event known as the 2015 Wing Bowl, a man by the name of Patrick Bertoletti ate 444 wings in just 26 minutes. As the dish finds a promising place in our parties, weddings and gatherings, one thing is clear and that’s that we love having this sweet and spicy treat.
