Among the variety of cuisines that Delhi has to offer, Indian-Chinese is one of the most loved. From chilli chicken to vegetable manchurian, the city’s Chinese restaurants offer all sorts of Chinjabi dishes. Restaurateur Nelson Wang has been credited with the invention of Indian-Chinese dishes like manchurian. While Wang started his chain of restaurants in Mumbai, his style of food has spread to Delhi too. We recommend five restaurants in Delhi that serve tasty Indian-Chinese food:

Chungwa

With soups like talumein and manchow on the menu, Chungwa in GK-II is one of Delhi’s older Chinese restaurants. The place serves classic Indian-Chinese dishes like vegetable manchurian, chilli chicken and chopsuey, which cannot be found on the menus of modern Chinese restaurants. Visit for old-school Chinjabi food that’s an amalgamation of Indian and Chinese flavours, or order dishes that are more traditional—Chungwa specialises in both.

4S

Mainly known for being a dive bar at night, 4S in Defence Colony is also a restaurant by day. It specialises in greasy finger food to go with drinks, which includes golden fried baby corn, vegetables with salt and pepper, crispy chilli potatoes, chilli paneer and drums of heaven. Soups like talumein and hot and sour also make an appearance. 4S is meant for a filling Indian-Chinese lunch with a tall glass of beer, both of which will make you want to nap afterwards.

China Garden

Crispy shredded potatoes, chilli chicken, Hakka chowmein and hot and sour soup define the food that China Garden is known for. Started by Nelson Wang in Mumbai, the Delhi and Gurgaon outlets are just as reputed and with good reason (nothing less can be expected of the man who created manchurian, of course). The restaurant is spread over multiple floors and is always busy so booking is recommended.

The Golden Dragon

With outlets in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida, The Golden Dragon has been synonymous with Indian-Chinese food for a long time. Starters include prawns cooked salt and pepper-style, a typical Indian-Chinese preparation, and chilli chicken and crispy shredded potato with honey and chilli. The place has a small Japanese section too, along with an extensive list of seafood dishes. It’s tough to find a table at the more popular locations like Panchsheel Park so book in advance if you’re going there.

Berco’s

One of Connaught Place’s most popular establishments, Berco’s is known for its Indian-Chinese dishes. While the restaurant also serves Thai food, we recommend you visit for the chilli garlic noodles, chopsuey, manchow soup, chicken manchurian, chilli garlic crispy vegetables and other salty, spicy classics. The menu is extensive and there’s a lot to choose from, so go with a larger group to be able to try multiple dishes.
