Strawberry Jam : Fresh and Tasty Jam In a Few Simple Steps

Making jams is an old age method to preserve fruits. Nowadays, we purchase jam from supermarket stores in jars by paying a good amount. But how would you react after knowing that you can make that same jam right in your kitchen by following some very easy steps. Also, when it comes to jam, most of us highly prefer strawberry jam as it’s delicious and makes a good combo with other food items. People usually prefer jam with bread or even use this in sweet dishes either as a major ingredient or for garnishing. So let’s learn to make strawberry jam in your home within an hour as it is not that hard to chop and squeeze the fruit to make jam.

As its name suggests, jam is a kind of jelly which is prepared by crushing and squeezing fruits. Historically, jam was used as a preservative but with time it turned out to be a crucial food item in your lifestyle. The history of jam takes us long ago in fourth century AD Rome. But in the new age, it was the year 1869, when Dr. Thomas Branwell Welch used the Concord grape to launch his grape juice company. Then in 1918, this company made its first jam product, called Grapelade. During the 1st World War, the US Army purchased all the products from Welch’s company and supplied them to France for its troops to consume.

Ingredients:

1. 800 gms of Strawberries (hulled and clean washed)

2. 400 gms of Caster sugar 

3. 100 gms of Red Apples

4. Juice of ½ a Lemon

Method:

For Strawberry Jam: 

1. Grind some strawberries and all the red apples together so that we can get a smooth paste out of it

2. Then transfer the paste to a pan and add the leftover  strawberries and caster sugar in the pan. Now turn the flame on and add the lemon juice. Cook the mixture on high flame for around 4 to 5 minutes on a high flame

3. Now mash the strawberries using a potato masher and keep cooking on high flame. Keep stirring the mixture continuously for 15 minutes or until it reaches to 105°C or 108°C. Then skim the precipitation off the jam and turn the flame off 

4. Now cool down the mixture to room temperature and then transfer to a sterilized jar. Cool it in the freezer so that it can get bonded properly and can also give a jelly-like texture

5.  Hence, the tasty and homemade Strawberry Jam is all set to make your mouth watery.

Moreover, don’t miss to store the jam in an airtight jar because that will make the jam long lasting. Generally the jam we buy from the store contains high amounts of sugar. But this self made Jam is very healthy and a great alternative for the jam we buy.
