Salt is an essential part of our food. It not only intensifies the flavour of the food but also removes all the toxins from our bodies. But do you have a habit of sprinkling salt over your food? It could lead to a whole lot of health problems. Let’s discuss various issues caused by excess salt in your meals.

Increases risk of type 2 diabetes

Do you know that overeating salt increases the risk of type 2 diabetes? According to Sweden's Institute of Environmental Medicine research, people who consume about 7.3 grams of salt every day have a higher risk of diabetes than those who consume up to 6 grams of salt every day. In addition, according to researchers, the sodium present in salt has a direct effect on insulin resistance, due to which the risk of developing type 2 diabetes increases by 43%.

Water retention

Water retention is the biggest problem caused due to eating excess salt in summer. Water retention means the accumulation of water in the body. When the amount of salt in the body is high, water retention increases, causing swelling all over the body. In addition, eating excess salt increases the level of sodium in the body, which draws water into the tissues. Due to which water starts accumulating in the body, and the problem of swelling starts.

Kidney problems

The cases of kidney-related problems have increased a lot among the youth too. This is happening due to excessive consumption of junk food (as it contains a lot of salt). Excessive salt increases the amount of calcium in the kidney leading to kidney stones. Therefore, if you want to keep the kidney healthy, then it is better to avoid excessive salt in summer.

Too much sodium causes high blood pressure

Taking extra salt in food is a clear invitation to high blood pressure. Therefore, when the blood pressure increases, doctors ask to reduce the amount of salt. Excess salt increases sodium chloride, i.e. salt in the body, which increases blood circulation in the arteries. This increased circulation puts pressure on the heart, which leads to the problem of high blood pressure.

Therefore, excessive salt should be avoided because it increases the risk of multiple health issues.
