Shamita Shetty Shows Off Her Delicious Odia Feast In Bhubaneswar

We love it when our favourite celebs share their favourite meals since we get to feast along with them vicariously. And when Shamita Shetty shared her recent Odia thali on a trip to Bubhanswer, we definitely felt like reaching through the screen to try some too! The Indian actress and interior designer known for roles in Mohabbatein and her bubbly social media posts along with her sister Shilpa Shetty recently posted about a delicious meal she had while on travelling to Odisha.

In the video posted to her Instagram page, she thanked Chef Arvind Rawat for the sumptuous thali which had been made for her and then took us on a tour of her meal expertly describing and naming each dish as she went and then the camera panned out to reveal a hilarious surprise.

Let’s take a look at some of the dishes that were on her plate that day.

  • Dahi Pana: A special dahi-based drink similar to lassi can be made savoury or sweet and is often made for the celebration of Panasankranti. This cooling beverage is a favourite of Odia cuisine.
  • Dalma: This simple and healthy dish is a combination of dal (usually arhar or toor dal) cooked along wih seasonal vegetables and less spices. It’s earthy and comforting for a homecooked feel.
  • Chaatu Rai: Chaatu Rai, also known as Chaatu Besara, is a wholesome mushroom delicacy with flavors of turmeric powder and tomatoes, cooked in a tangy and delightful mustard paste
  • Chenna Tarkari: Soft dumplings are made of chhena, a type of fresh cottage cheese, which are then fried and cooked in a rich tomato gravy for a wholesome dish.
  • Maccha Bhaja: Odisha is known for its variety of seafood and this dish while simple allows the fish to shine. Fried in a selection of basic spices and mustard oil Maccha Bhaja is the perfect Odia fish fry.
  • Baingan Bhaja: A wonderful dish of bringal slices or pieces, coated in spices and some rice flour and then fried till golden brown.
  • Chenna Poda: A sweet treat that’s loved in Odisha, this also features their signature cheese chenna which is kneaded and made into a dough with semolina and then baked till it has a beautiful brown crust and soft centre.
