Chocolate milkshake is the most classic diner drink and that is because it involves only two ingredients: milk and ice cream. Two ingredients make this wonderfully sweet yet frothy beverage. So how can we elevate this basic beverage to the velvety decadent chocolatey drink of your dreams?

Well, duh, make your own ice cream. Homemade ice cream is infinitely better than any ice cream you buy at a store or an ice-cream parlour. And you can make your customisations, make it sweeter if you like or add any of your fix-ins.

You’ll Need

For The Ice Cream

55 grams of dark chocolate

4 large egg yolks

1/2 cup of white sugar

2 cups of cream

1/3 cups of cocoa powder

1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla essence

For The Milkshake

1 cup of full-fat milk

1 ounce of whisky

Instructions

1. Melt the chocolate in the microwave in thirty seconds intervals and allow it to come back to room temperature.

2. In a bowl, whip the yolks and sugar until fluffy for 1-2 minutes.

3. In a saucepan, combine the cocoa powder and cream and bring to medium heat.

4. Once the cream mixture is heated and bring off the heat.

5. Slowly ladle a cream mixture into the egg and sugar bowl slowly while constantly whisking (so as to temper the eggs).

6. Stir in the melted chocolate.

7. Place the saucepan back on the stove and heat it till reaches 170 degrees Celsius (or till it coats the back of a spoon).

8. Remove from the heat, and continue whisking. Add the vanilla and let it reach room temperature and then cool in the fridge for a couple of hours.

9. Put the cooled mixture in your ice cream maker and prepare according to your machine instructions.

10. In a blender, add two scoops of your ice cream and milk and whisky and blend. Pour into a tall glass, top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings and enjoy!
