Mothers are troubled when the kids start demanding too much. One wants fries, the other wants pasta and so on. Similarly, we also tend to get confused at times as to what should we eat, pasta or pizza. While the two supposedly Italian dishes are different in name, it is the ingredients that sometimes tend to coincide. Both involve the use of all-purpose flour, pizza for its base and pasta for well, the pasta itself. Then there is generally a sauce involved in its making, on the base on the pizza or mixed with the pasta, which could be a spicy one or the creamy kind. Finally, the pizza toppings like veggies and meat can also be found in a pasta bowl, depending on what you’re eating.

With so many similarities and roots of origin, why didn’t we ever think of combining the two together? Well, not to worry, because Chef Ranveer Brar has. The MasterChef judge who is known to judge a dish by its soch, surat and swaad, has managed to amalgamate the two Italian flavours into one and give us a pasta pizza recipe. The best part is that it doesn’t need an oven and the pizza doesn’t have a base either. Curious already? Here’s how he made.

He takes some spaghetti pasta and boils it in loads of salt. Meanwhile, he prepares the tomato sauce using tomato ketchup, red chilli flakes and oregano. He then adds garlic and onion to the mixture and sautés it well. Once the spaghetti is boiled, the water is drained from it and it is kept to cool down. The vegetables to be used as toppings of the pizza are chopped, like bell peppers, onions and tomatoes. Then the assembling of the pizza pasta begins. For this, the spaghetti is spread evenly on a pan filled with oil. It is cooked until it turns crispy and then the tomato sauce is slathered onto it. Gradually, the toppings and the grated cheese is also added to the base. This is cooked with the lid covered to melt the cheese. After a few minutes, the pizza pasta is taken out on a plate and served with a garnish of coriander.
