These nutritious Churi ka parathas are perfect for inclusion in children's lunch boxes, accompanied by a side of yoghurt and chutney.

Recently HomeChef Surabhi bhandari took to her Instagram and wrote, “Korme ki puri or moongori as we call it, is a paratha made from broken moong dal. The dal ka chura that is left after grinding the whole moong is called korma. We make delicious dhokle, parathe and khakra with it. The parathe can be stored for a few days and hence they are an excellent travelling snack too. They are best enjoyed with achar, dahi or just like that! Since no onion, garlic is required in this, it makes a very good Jain recipe too.. healthy and delicious, do try it and let me know!”

Here’s the recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup moong dal

2 cups flour

Red chilli powder - 1.5-2 tsp

Haldi powder - 1/3 tsp

Jeera - 1 tsp

Salt to taste

Oil- 2 tbsp plus for cooking

Method:

Grind the moong dal to a coarse powder. Wash it nicely in a sieve and soak in some water for an hour. Add flour and masala to it and knead to a semi-soft dough. It shouldn’t be too soft. Take care when adding water as soaked dal will also have water. Divide the dough into equal size small balls and roll them into parathas one by one. Heat them on tawa and cook till golden brown. Add a dollop of butter or have it plain. Enjoy!

Benefits:

Health benefits abound from eating green moong dal, often called green gram or mung bean. Fibre, vital amino acids, and plant-based proteins can all be found in abundance in this lentil. Because of their high fibre content, these help with digestion, promote regular bowel movement and support a healthy weight. In terms of heart health, green moong dal scores high due to its low fat and cholesterol content. Folate, potassium, magnesium, and iron are just some of the vitamins and minerals it provides in plenty. Green moong dal has been linked to improved blood sugar control, a lower chance of developing chronic disease, and general health and well-being when consumed on a regular basis. Soups, salads, stews, and curries are just some of the many recipes that can benefit from its adaptability.
