Waffles have their origin in France but they are enjoyed all around the world and are prepared in different varieties such as the Brussels waffles, Liège waffles, Flemish waffles, Bergische waffles, American waffles, and the traditional Belgian waffles.
The first known waffle recipe can be traced to the late 14th century in an anonymous manuscript, Le Ménagier de Paris which was written by a man for his young wife as a form of instructions. By the 20th-century waffle recipes were all over recipe books.
Waffles are often served with various kinds of toppings such as butter, honey, different syrups, chocolate chips, dulce de leche, ice cream and fresh fruits like bananas and strawberries.
