The city of Mangalore is located near the Konkan coast, and the cuisine is influenced by both north and south Indian food. Mangalore street food utilizes many coastal ingredients, such as coconut oil, seafood, and rice. The south Indian section of street food consists of dosa, vada, idlis, and rasam. Regarding north Indian influences, chaats and samosas take the cake. 

Mangalore buns are a delicacy where the dough is spiced and mixed with ripe bananas. This snack is often likened to the bhatura. Another local favourite is the thick coconut-based curry called gassi, made of kori (chicken), channa dal (chickpeas), meen (fish), paneer (cottage cheese) that is paired with roti, rice, or the traditional neer dosa or korri roti. 

The snack goli bajji is perfect for any sweet-and-sour snack lover. It is a plain soft bun made of maida (flour) and curd and fried to make it crispy and golden brown. It is often served with chutney. Other seafood items such as kingfish, prawns, crabs, and seerfish are also enjoyed.
