While several dessert alternatives are available in the markets, there is nothing like 'home-made sweets'. Do you feel preparing sweets is a challenging task at home? These 2 simple barfi recipes are sure to change that! Quick, easy and delicious, these barfi recipes are a true delight!

Coconut Barfi 

It is a tasty and simple Indian dessert recipe prepared mainly with sugar, milk and grated coconut. It can also be made with desiccated coconut and condensed milk, but it follows the usual formula. 

Ingredients: 

  • 1-2 cups of grated coconut and sugar  
  • Green cardamom powder to taste 
  • Cashews and almonds to garnish 
  • 1/2 cup fresh cream 
  • 1/2 tbsp ghee

Cooking Directions: 

  1. Add sugar, fresh cream and grated coconut in a non-stick pan. Now sprinkle some fresh cardamom powder. 
  2. Cook it completely. Remove the container from flame and let it cool down. 
  3. Now smear a plate/thali with ghee and pour the whole mix on the plate/thali. 
  4. Spread smoothly and cut into small rectangle/square bites. 
  5. You can garnish it with cashews or almonds. Serve. 

Kaju Barfi 

Kaju barfi is a traditional Indian delicacy made with cashews on every special occasion. Kaju Katli recipe involves sugar, saffron and thickened milk and is the perfect treat to sate your dessert cravings! 

Ingredients: 

  • 250 gm cashew nuts or kaju 
  • 250 gm milk and sugar 
  • Silver leaves for barfi decoration

Cooking Directions: 

  1. Blend kaju/cashews with milk in a mixer (till it turns into a paste). 
  2. Now add kaju paste and sugar to a pan and cook until it dissolves. 
  3. Till the mixture is fully cooked, keep stirring it. 
  4. Remove the container from flame and let it cool down. 
  5. Roll the dough into a sheet using the rolling pin. 
  6. Layer the sheet with silver and cut it into pieces (diamond shape). 
  7. Your traditional cashew barfi or kaju katli is ready to be consumed!
