Poornam Boorelu Recipe, A Festival Sweet From Andhra Pradesh

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1 cup chana dal
  • 1 cup jaggery
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tbsp grated coconut
  • 1 tsp cardamom powder
  • Oil


  • Soak the chana dal in water for about 2-3 hours. Drain the water and grind the dal into a coarse paste.
  • Heat a pan and add the jaggery and 2 cups of water. Stir the mixture until the jaggery dissolves completely.
  • Add the chana dal paste to the jaggery syrup and mix well. Cook the mixture on low heat, stirring continuously, until it thickens and starts leaving the sides of the pan.
  • Add the grated coconut and cardamom powder to the mixture and mix well. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down.
  • Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into small balls.Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Dip each ball in rice flour and coat it well. Fry the balls until they turn golden brown.
