Nutritionist Ruchita Batra Shares 4 Best Travel Snacks

Do you struggle with your diet when you’re travelling? It can be hard to find healthy, digestible food options when you’re travelling especially during summer. Street food, although accessible and cheap isn’t always an ideal option since it can be too greasy and can also cause digestive stress.

Nutritionist Ruchita Batra took to Instagram to share the best travelling snacks. Nuts, seeds, fruits and dry, nutritious foods are the best options if you’re looking for nutritious, mess-free snack options. Let’s break down some of her suggestions and why they’re good options.

Multi-grain sandwich

A multigrain sandwich is a great travel snack. It’s nutritious, providing a mix of carbohydrates, fibre, and protein, which helps keep you full and energized. The variety of grains offers essential vitamins and minerals. Additionally, it’s easy to prepare, pack, and eat on the go. You can customise the filling to your taste, opting for healthy ingredients like lean meats, cheese, vegetables, and spreads. To keep it fresh, use a small cooler or insulated lunch bag. Avoid perishable fillings if refrigeration isn't available to ensure it stays safe to eat during your journey.

Fruits

Certain fruits can make for great travel snacks. Apples are easy to consume, don't bruise easily, and can be eaten whole. Bananas are convenient to carry, though they should be consumed relatively quickly to avoid over-ripening. Grapes are easy to eat and don't require peeling so you can keep them in a resealable bag for convenience. Strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are nutritious and easy to pack in containers while raisins, apricots, and apple slices are lightweight, non-perishable, and provide a concentrated source of nutrients.

Roasted seeds

They are an excellent choice for a travel snack as they are compact, non-perishable, and packed with nutrients, making them convenient and healthy. Seeds like sunflower, pumpkin, and flaxseeds are rich in protein, healthy fats, fibre, vitamins, and minerals. Their high protein and fat content provide sustained energy, which is ideal for long journeys. Roasted seeds are lightweight and easy to pack. They don't require refrigeration, making them suitable for any travel duration

Mixed nuts

They are nutrient-dense, providing a good balance of healthy fats, protein, fibre, vitamins, and minerals. This makes them a satisfying and sustaining snack that can help keep your energy levels up during travel. Nuts have a long shelf life and don't spoil quickly, making them ideal for long trips or situations where you don't have access to fresh food.

Mixed nuts offer a variety of flavours and textures, which can be more enjoyable than a single type of nut. This variety can also help prevent snack fatigue.
