Ramzan in Hyderabad is a time when every palate, from the seasoned connoisseur to a casual diner, indulges in the delectable delight of haleem. As evening descends, the city is abuzz with the sound of people flocking to various eateries across town to savour the rich and savoury stew. Whether it's the general public or the who's who of Tollywood, everyone seems to have their favourite spot to relish this rich, porridge-like dish. Celebrities like Rana Daggubati, Jr. NTR, and others have expressed their love for haleem in the past, and it's no wonder that Akkineni Naga Chaitanya too recently visited the famous 'Cafe 555' at Masab Tank to sample their lip-smacking haleem.
Cafe 555 took to its Instagram handle to express its appreciation to Naga Chaitanya for visiting their outlet. The restaurant shared two captivating photos featuring the charming Telugu actor, who was seen thoroughly enjoying their most recommended dish of the season. The first picture captures Naga Chaitanya striking a pose with three other people inside the cozy cafe. And in the second one, the 'Love Story' star can be seen seated in his car, holding a bowl of their signature Haleem in his hand, ready to savour the mouth-watering dish to its very last bite. Take a look at the pictures shared by the café:
Made from wheat, lentils, and mutton that has been slow-cooked with spices and herbs for many hours, haleem has a long history in India that dates way back to the Mughals. And Ramadan is perhaps the best time to relish the meaty delicacy in Hyderabad, where it has been an integral part of the local Hyderabadi cuisine since the rule of the seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan.
The beloved Hyderabadi haleem's roots can be traced back to the Arabian harissa. The Nizam's Arab palace guards, who were predominantly Yemeni, brought harissa to Hyderabad in the 19th century, and it eventually evolved into the popular haleem dish. Over time, this hearty stewed dish underwent a transformation, incorporating local spices and ingredients to become the iconic dish that we savour today as the Hyderabadi haleem.
Coming back to Naga Chaitanya, the actor is known for his love for food and often shares pictures of his foodie adventures on social media as well. And this is why we aren’t surprised that, after relishing haleem at Café 555, he headed to grab a steaming cup of chai at the city’s beloved Niloufer Café. The actor was recently spotted with director Venkat Prabhu at the café, sipping tea. Although it was ostensibly a promotional activity for their forthcoming movie 'Custody', it seems like the dynamic duo had an equally enjoyable time savouring delicious chai and tasty treats as they did discuss the film.
