Actress Mouni Roy who would soon be seen in Ayan Mukherji’s ‘Brahmastra’ in September, was also one of the attendees of Karan Johar’s 50th Birthday party. Looking ravishing in her shimmery gown, she posted quite a few pictures from inside the party. Mouni seemed to be in a ‘catching-up’ spree as on Thursday, she also caught up with fashion designer Nidhi Kurda, who treated the actor with some yummy, home-made vegetable cheelas. Mouni is arguably one of the biggest foodie celebrities you can follow on Instagram. Along with pictures of her travels and OOTD’s Mouni’s feed is often filled with food. She is quite an amazing cook herself, and often flaunts her cooking skills on the platform. But on Thursday, the actress decided to give a shoutout to her friend, who had indeed made a rather delicious looking veg cheela. For the uninitiated, Chila or cheela is an Indian dish that is slightly thinner than a pancake and slightly thicker than a crepe. It can be made with a sweet or savoury batter. A combination of lentils or flours can be used to make cheelas, sometimes chopped vegetables like onions, tomatoes and chillies are also added to the batter to yield much more filling and appetizing veg cheela.

Cheela is an excellent breakfast option, however, one can also have it later in the evening as an evening snack. Since they are so easy to make, you can make a bunch of them and take it along for picnics, potlucks and even train journeys. We have fetched an excellent recipe for you with which you can make perfect round cheelas every time. We agree there are many challenges that come your way while making cheelas or crepes of any kind. This could be due to improper consistency or the temperature of the pan, or multiple other reasons. Here are some tips you can keep in mind while making cheelas at home.

  1. Make a smooth batter with besan (or any flour you are using ad water), it should be lump-free and not too thin or too thick.
  2. Once you have gotten the consistency right, add salt, turmeric, red chilly powder etc.
  3. Then proceed towards chopping all vegetables like onions, green chillies and tomatoes. Mix everything well and keep it aside.
  4. Grease a non-stick tawa and heat it.
  5. Pour the batter onto the pan when it is hot and spread it with a  ladle. And then reduce the flame, as it can burn your cheela.
  6. Now on top of this cheela, add all the mixed vegetables and spread it with the ladle.
  7. Flip the cheela and ensure both sides are well-cooked.
  8. Serve the cheela hot with sauce.

Here is the complete recipe for the cheela. Try it at home and let us know how you liked it. You can also mix and match the veggies as per your liking.
