Monsoon and food go hand in hand, especially if you live in North India and are already tired of heatwaves. The soaring temperature often kills your appetite, and as soon as grey clouds take over the blue sky and the burning sun, you suddenly start craving fried foods. Scroll through social media, and you will witness people romanticising pakoras and chai combinations during rainfall.

But that is just the beginning. Monsoon calls for heading back to the kitchen to try different recipes that imbibe the vibe of the season, including mocktails. Slurrp connected with Manish Joshi, Mixologist, The Malabar Coast, to bring you recipes for tropical beverages that will complete your snacks and add a refreshing touch to the spread.

Wild Rain

Ingredients

  • 2 oz orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 tbsp gummy syrup (fruity flavoured, like berry or mango)
  • 4–5 fresh mint leaves
  • Sparkling water – to top up
  • Ice cubes – as needed
  • For garnish – Orange slice & mint sprig

Method

  • In a tall glass, mix orange juice and gummy syrup until well combined.
  • Add mint leaves and gently press them (do not crush completely).
  • Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  • Pour chilled sparkling water to top up.
  • Garnish with an orange slice and mint.

Kiwi Cooler

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe kiwi (peeled and chopped)
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 6–8 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 tbsp simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • Ice cubes – as needed
  • Soda water – to top up
  • For garnish – Mint sprig and kiwi slice

Method

  • In a glass or shaker, muddle the kiwi chunks and mint leaves gently to release the flavours.
  • Add lime juice and simple syrup.
  • Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  • Top it up with chilled soda water.
  • Stir gently and garnish with a kiwi slice and a mint sprig.

Jolly Roger

Ingredients

  • ½ cup fresh pineapple juice
  • 3–4 pineapple chunks
  • 6–8 mint leaves
  • 1 pinch black salt
  • 1 tbsp simple syrup
  • 1 cup ice
  • For garnish – Mint sprig & pineapple wedge

Method

  • In a blender, add pineapple juice, chunks, mint leaves, black salt, simple syrup, and ice.
  • Blend until smooth and slushy.
  • Pour into a chilled glass.
  • Garnish with mint and a pineapple wedge.
