Homemade Butterscotch pudding is a custard with a caramel flavour that is prepared with common ingredients. This creamy dessert can be made in under 30 minutes, but it will need to be chilled for at least two hours before it is the appropriate consistency to enjoy. With the aid of these suggestions, you won't have any trouble making this homemade butterscotch pudding whether you've never made pudding before or are a custard expert.

The egg yolks should be tempered before being added to the hot pudding mixture while preparing any form of pudding. You might end up with a lumpy, curdled pudding if you don't. Eggs are heated by adding a little amount of hot milk and whisking it in quickly.

Try experimenting with various toppings and ingredients to alter the flavour profile of this straightforward recipe. For an even richer pudding, replace the whole milk with heavy cream or half & half. With a softer flavour, swap dark brown sugar for light brown sugar. Pour some salted caramel sauce, handmade whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, gingerbread crumbs, or crushed pecans on top of this pudding as a garnish if you want.

Here’s how you can prepare this easy dessert at home.

Ingredients:

 2 tbsp Butter

1 1/2 cups of Brown Sugar

 3 cups of Whole Milk

 4 whole Egg Yolks

 Unsweetened Whipped Cream

 1/4 cup of Cornstarch

 1/2 tsp Salt

Method:

In a medium nonstick skillet, mix the salt, cornflour, and brown sugar slowly.

Whisk the milk and egg yolks in a separate bowl. Stir it together after adding it to the pan containing the brown sugar mixture.

The mixture should only begin to boil up or become quite thick after you turn the heat to medium and cook it while gently stirring. (This may require around 10 minutes.) When it reaches pudding consistency, stir in the butter until it is melted, turn off the heat, and then ladle the mixture into bowls, glasses (with caution; the mixture is hot), demitasse cups, etc. The pudding should be chilled for at least an hour or until very cold.

Serve after adding unsweetened whipped cream on top.
