It’s the summer season, and for foodies summer in India is all about noshing on seasonal fruits, primarily – mangoes. The ‘king of fruits’ is undoubtedly one of the most delicious summer fruits, which can be enjoyed in various forms. From mango shake, salads, desserts, dips and so on, the sweet and juicy treat is relished by Indians in many ways in the scorching summer heat. The love for mangoes also stems from the fact that there are several mango varieties found across the country, some of them are locally popular but difficult to procure in other parts of the country. For instance, Dashehari mangoes might be a native of Uttar Pradesh and are available across the state, but what if someone in Bengaluru wants to relish the same? Even if you do get Dashehri in Bengaluru, it will be way too expensive to buy.

To tackle the issue, the Karnataka Government recently launched a new initiative that aims to deliver local varieties of mangoes grown in the state to customers through an online medium. The Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation Limited (KSMDMCL) launched an exclusive website on May 16, 2022 to market mangoes directly to the customers without any intermediaries.

The online portal goes by the name of Karnataka’s trademark ‘Karsiri Mangoes’. It was launched in collaboration with India Post. You can access it at www.karsirimangoes.karnataka.gov.in. The idea is to directly connect farmers with customers who want to enjoy delicious, farm-fresh mangoes delivered to their doorstep at minimal cost. The timing and idea of the initiative seems to be just perfect amid the hot summer months, when mango becomes a staple fruit, not just for its mouth-watering flavour but also for its hydrating properties and many health benefits.

And if you are thinking that the portal might not have many varieties, you can’t be more wrong! The Kasiri portal lists over 25 different mango items at the time of writing, including the popular Alphonso, Banganpalli, Neelum, Amrapali, Dashehari, Kesar, Beneshan, Totapuri, Malgova, Mallika, Raspuri and Sendhura. Along with mangoes, fresh and exotic fruits such as pomegranate, guava, rambutan, avocado and figs will also soon be made available on the portal. Isn’t that amazing?

However, only Bengaluru residents can register on the website and place their orders for now. A minimum order of 3kg is a must for the Karnataka Government’s website, where photographs and prices of the mango varieties are displayed alongside when you browse. Select the mango you want; the farmers will directly pack and supply their mangoes to you through the General Post Office in Bengaluru. The process is fairly simple and hassle-free, isn’t it?
