International Men’s Day: Chef Rana D Gomes Shares 3 Recipes

November 19 is observed as International Men’s Day to recognise the amazing contributions men make in our family and society. We celebrate this day to appreciate the important men in our lives, be they fathers, brothers, uncles, grandfathers, friends, or spouses. It is also a time to bring out the issues men face in their lives, such as parental alienation, abuse, and violence. 

The theme for International Men’s Day 2023 is “zero male suicide,” which is dedicated to helping men cope with their mental health. So, this year, why not bring a smile to the faces of our favourite men by surprising them with some delicious dishes? If you don’t feel like serving the same old cakes and curries on this special day, we have a solution for this. 

Here are three delicious recipes shared by Chef Rana Dominic Gomes, Area Chef South, Hotel Royal Orchid Bangalore: 

Chicken Masala Tacos


Prep Time: 15 minutes 

Cook Time: 20 minutes 

Servings: 4 

Ingredients: 

  • 450 g ground chicken (or paneer for a vegetarian option) 
  • 1 tablespoon of oil 
  • 1 onion, finely chopped 
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced 
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated 
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning 
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala 
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes 
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped 
  • 8 small tortillas 
  • Sour cream and chutney for serving

Method: 

  • Heat oil in a pan; add onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions are translucent. 
  • Add the ground chicken or paneer and cook until brown.  
  • Stir in taco seasoning, garam masala, and diced tomatoes. Simmer for 5 minutes. 
  • Warm tortillas, then fill them with the mixture. 
  • Top with cilantro, a dollop of sour cream, and your favourite chutney. 

Curry Risotto


Prep Time: 10 minutes 

Cook Time: 30 minutes 

Servings: 4 

Ingredients: 

  • 2 cups Arborio rice 
  • 4 cups of chicken or vegetable broth 
  • 1 onion, finely chopped 
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced 
  • 2 tablespoons of curry powder 
  • 1/2 cup of peas 
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese 
  • Fresh coriander for garnish

Method: 

  • Sauté the onion and garlic in a large pan until translucent. 
  • To it, add Arborio rice and cook for a few minutes. 
  • Add curry powder and stir it for another minute. 
  • Gradually add the broth, one ladle at a time, stirring until absorbed. 
  • When the rice is creamy and tender, add peas and Parmesan cheese. 
  • Garnish with fresh coriander before serving. 

Tandoori Pizza


Prep Time: 20 minutes 

Cook Time: 15 minutes 

Servings: 2-4 

Ingredients:

  • 2 pizza dough balls 
  • 1/2 cup tandoori chicken, shredded 
  • 1/2 cup red onion, thinly sliced 
  • 1/2 cup bell peppers, thinly sliced 
  • 1 cup of mozzarella cheese 
  • 2 tablespoons tandoori sauce 
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish 

Method: 

  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone inside if you have one. 
  • Roll out the pizza dough and spread tandoori sauce as the base. 
  • Top with tandoori chicken, onions, bell peppers, and mozzarella cheese. 
  • Bake for 12–15 minutes until the crust is crispy and the cheese is bubbly. 
  • Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
