Indian Cricket Team's Lunch Menu Includes Chicken Chettinad; Here’s All About It

Cricket is close to a religion in India and one can simply tell that when its cricket team is out there playing a series. The Indian Cricket Team is currently in South Africa playing a three-part Test Series and fans and followers of the sports are keeping a tab on each and every detail related to it, even the food the Indian cricketers are being served. Recently, a picture of their delicious lunch menu surfaced on Twitter and quickly went viral, leaving cricket fans pleasantly surprised. Reason? A lot of their favourite dishes were on the menu of their favourite cricket team’s lunch. Take a look:

The picture was shared on Twitter by user @mufaddal_vohra, where it received over 4k likes, many retweets and hundreds of comments. "Day 2 Lunch menu for team India," read the caption to the post. The partially visible menu for the Indian cricket team was written on a blackboard with white chalk, and had some drool-worthy as well as delicious treats to it. The meal started with some healthy Broccoli soup, followed by the South-style specialty Chicken Chettinad. There were wholesome dishes too including Yellow Dal, Vegetable Kadhai and mouth-watering Paneer Tikka. There also seemed to be a continental selection of Lamb Chops and pepper sauce and what seemed like a Quinoa-based dish.

The lavish spread for the Indian cricket team indeed got Twitter users' mouths watering. But what got us excited was the Chicken Chettinad oon the menu. Instead of a regular chicken curry, this south Indian chicken curry got to the plates of our cricket team. A popular feature of the Chettinad cuisine, which belongs to the community of Nattukotai Chettiars, or Nagarathars from the Chettinad region of Tamil Nadu, Chicken Chettinad is known to be one of the spiciest delicacies of Indian cuisine. Chettinad cuisine itself is one of the spiciest in the world, thanks to the generous use of local and fresh ground spices.

Chicken Chettinad comes packed with spices and herbs including cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, fennel and curry leaves. It is cooked along with onions, tomato puree, red chilli and ginger-garlic paste. This spicy masala is then sautéed and cooked with chicken till it is tender and give an aromatic flavour to our senses. With so much spice on the plate, hope our Cricket team’s palates are well-prepared for it!
