Ram Laddoo: How To Make The Tantalising Moong Dal Snack At Home?

Ram Laddu is the most famous street food in India! Made with moong dal, served with chutney, chaat masala and radish, this chaat is irresistible. Ram ladoos are fried vadas made from chana dal and moong dal batter and are popular street food in India. Ram ladoos have gathered a loyal fan base with a spicy, pungent flavour that surpasses kids and adults. But, do you know what's so unique about the sizzling of this zesty snack? It is the tantalising chutney on top. While two types of chutney make Ram ladoo more delicious, the green chutney made with green coriander leaves and mint impresses all. The other one is a red chutney made from tamarind and lends a sweet and sour flavour to the snack. Hence, when you eat spicy chutney and sour tamarind chutney together with the whole dish, it is an experience you won’t forget! 

Here’s how you can make Ram Ladoos at home: 

INGREDIENTS 

For Ram ladoos: 

  • A pinch of asafoetida, salt and baking soda each
  • ¼ cup moong dal 
  • ¾ cup chana dal
  • 1-inch ginger 
  • 2 green chilli 
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 tsp jeera 

Method: 

  1. Firstly, soak ¼ cup chana dal and ¾ cup moong dal in a large bowl. 
  2. Drain water and blend dal in the blender and add two green chillies and 1-inch ginger. 
  3. Also, add pinch baking soda, hing, 1 tsp cumin and salt. 
  4. Beat and mixture well and start dropping them to hot oil. 
  5. Also, fry the vada on lower to medium flame till they turn golden brown. 
  6. Drain off the pakora and place the fried vada into the serving plate. 
  7. Top with 2 tsp tamarind chutney and 3 tsp green chutney. 
  8. Top with 2 tbsp coriander leaves and 3 tbsp grated radish. 
  9. Now sprinkle pinch amchur, salt and chaat masala. 
  10. Enjoy Ram laddu topped with tamarind and green chutney. 

For Chutney: 

INGREDIENTS:

  • pinch dry mango powder, masala and salt
  • ¼ cup tamarind and green chutney 
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander 
  • 3 tbsp grated radish

Method: 

  1. First, put hot pakoras made of moong dal on the plate. 
  2. Secondly, put grated radish on it. 
  3. Thirdly sprinkle green chutney and red chutney on it.  
  4. Lastly, you can also sprinkle chaat masala on it to make it spicier as per your choice.
