How To Make Pancakes; 5 Toppings To Slather Them Beyond Maple Syrup
Image Credit: From caramel sauce to nutella, douse your pancakes in all things tasty.

I’m not a huge fan of pancakes but the ones I had at Jimmy Italian Kitchen back in Dharamshala are definitely worth remembering. The soft sheet of pancakes was doused in oodles of maple syrup and butter. While my sister detested them, I loved the sweet smell of these tasty treats. Since the pandemic, I haven’t had a chance to dive into a good pancake. It was only on a cold day in December that I met my friend at a diner for breakfast. She ordered a stack of three pancakes and as soon as it came, I was quite tempted. However, to my surprise, there was no maple syrup in sight.

Honey, butter and whipped cream were brought on our table by the server and my friend never raised an objection for maple syrup too which seemed strange to me. She said that she isn’t fond of it and pancakes can be eaten with a variety of toppings. To my amazement, there were plenty of options on the menu too, from sweet cinnamon pancakes to savoury salmon ones. This turned to be an eye-opener for me and since then, I’ve tried pancakes with a host of syrups and toppings.

If you’re up for something new, try these pancake toppings today.

1.  Caramel Sauce Pancakes

The sweet and sticky caramel sauce is a really great pairing for pancakes. Ditch the chocolate and nutella and try this smooth and slimy caramel sauce drizzled on your stack of pancakes. You can make the pancake batter with dates and then slather it with this sauce along with some fruits on the side.

2.  Sour Cream Pancakes

Sour cream, as the name suggests, is creamy and soft. You can use hung curd instead of sour cream if you like. Slather the stack of pancakes with lots of sour cream and add a fruity touch to it with blueberry or strawberry jam. This adds sweetness to the whole dish. You can turn it around it a savoury meal too with some pickled cucumbers, dill and more.

3.  Peanut Butter Pancakes

Like the idea of something crunchy and sweet at the same time? These peanut butter pancakes are calling you then. Douse the pancake stack in oodles of peanut butter and drizzle a slight amount of maple syrup or honey some smoothness. Slice some bananas and pair them with it.

4.  Ice Cream Pancakes

Now that you’ve got some and gooey pancakes, you can pair them with something cold and chilled like ice cream too. Pick a flavour you like and scoop up the ice cream on top of your pancakes right away. Apple-based pancakes can be topped with vanilla or butterscotch ice cream.

5.  Nutella Pancakes

All things are chocolaty about these pancakes. Pour in some nutella from the jar and sprinkle some choco chips on top for the crunch. This will be a quick breakfast cum dessert.
