We feel absolutely hot and wish to avoid this summer season as soon as we think of it. But it is just impossible to skip summer and jump directly to winters. So, let’s stop pondering and prepare a fresh and cool drink for the sunny season. As summers are scorching and unbearable, a fresh chilled glass of juice is more than welcomed. So, to rejuvenate and replenish one selves, here is a suggested recipe – Green Gram Juice, that must not be missed. The Green Gram Juice is a healthy and extremely lip-smacking drink that is refreshing and cool as well. The juice incorporates a good amount of vitamins and minerals that keeps the body cool and fresh throughout the day. The juice is prepared by combining the green lentils with freshly grated coconut and jaggery. Water is added to adjust the consistency. Cardamom is also mixed thoroughly as a flavouring to emit an extravagant taste. All these ingredients make up a light and cool drink for summers. It reduces body heat and keeps one fresh. One-full glass of Green Gram Juice is equivalent to Nirvana. 

Green gram was cultivated in India for over a million years.  The home country is the largest producer, with Maharashtra adding majorly to the contribution. Green gram (Mung Dal) is a plethora of nutrients and thereby is a store house of numerous benefits. Mung beans, aka Vigna Radiata scientifically, belong to a legume family. The lentils are often sold fresh, as sprouts, or dried, and they have a mildly sweet flavour. They are quite adaptable and are frequently used in salads, soups and stir-fries. They are rich in nutrients and treats a variety of illnesses. It also contains multiple valuable antioxidants such as phenolic acids, flavonoids, caffeic acid, and cinnamic acid. It also includes vitexin and isovitexin which prevents the free radical damage that happens from heat exhaustion, thereby standing as a good source to beat sun’s heat.


  • ½ cup Green Lentils
  • ½ cup Coconut, freshly grated
  • Water, as needed
  • 1.5 tablespoon Jaggery, crushed
  • ¼ teaspoon Cardamom powder


  • Heat a pan and add green lentils. Roast them over low-medium flame. Move the lentils into a large mixing bowl.
  • Add enough water and rinse the dal properly.
  • Transfer the dal into a grinder. Combine it with freshly grated coconut, jaggery, and water to form a fine puree.
  • By using a strainer, extract and collect the juice. And remove the remainder.
  • Add cardamom powder to the bowl containing juice. Mix well. 
  • Add more water to adjust consistency.
  • Pour the juice in a glass and serve with ice cubes in it.
  • Beat the sun and enjoy the hydrating Green Gram juice!
