Popsicle has always been the first love during summer. The chilled and sugary delight has also won the taste buds of adults along with children. Did you know that an eleven-year-old kid named Frank Epperson is the creator of this summer dessert. He wanted to make a sweet beverage for himself but accidentally left the glass overnight in the cold weather of Oakland and found out the frozen solid next day. He named it ‘epsicle’ and years later he shared it with the world. Along with having a unique history, this sweet treat is also very easy to make. Also known as ice pops, these sweetners are available in numerous flavours, one can customize their popsicle according to their preference.  

But often readymade popsicles are either too sugary or loaded with preservatives and also expensive. So, why not try making delicious popsicles by yourself? Homemade popsicle just needs three basic ingredients which are fruit juice, disposable paper cups, and wooden sticks. You can also make it icier, fruitier and healthy by adding ingredients of your own choice. Here are four delicious popsicle recipes you can enjoy with your family:  

1. Kiwi Popsicle:  

Ingredients:  

  • 4 fresh kiwi (peeled and sliced)  
  • 2 tsp powdered sugar  
  • 2 1/2 cups water  

Method:  

  • Blend three kiwi fruits, powdered sugar and water until smooth.  
  • Slice the fourth kiwi and place them into popsicle moulds or paper cups.  
  •  Fill moulds with blended kiwi mixture.  
  • Add popsicle sticks and freeze eight hours or overnight.  

2. Orange-Banana Smoothie Pops:  

Ingredients:  

  • 1 mango sliced  
  • 1 banana  
  • 1 orange (juiced)  
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt  

Method:  

  • Place mango, banana, orange juice and yogurt in blender.   
  • Blend until smooth.  
  • Pour into moulds or paper cups and freeze overnight.  

3. Confetti Cake Batter Pops  

  • 1 tsp confetti cake   
  • 1 cup water  
  • 1 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt  
  • 2/3 cup heavy whipping cream  
  • 2 1/2 tsp butter  
  • 1/2 cup candy (melted)  
  • ½ cup sprinkles  

Method:  

  • Mix confetti cake, strain, and let cool.  
  •  Then in a small bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff.   
  • Add in the yogurt, butter, and cake and mix well.  
  • Then add a few sprinkles into each empty popsicle mould and then fill them with the mixture. 
  •  Freeze the popsicles for at least 6 hours, or overnight.  
  •  Once the popsicles are completely set, remove them from the moulds and drizzle them with a spoonful of melted candy.   
  • Garnish with more sprinkles and enjoy!  

4. Strawberry Yogurt Popsicle:  

  •  1 cup ripe strawberries  
  •  2 cups full-fat plain yogurt  
  •  1/4 cup honey  

Method:   

  •  Blend strawberries until puree like consistency.   
  • Add yogurt, honey, and continue to blend until combined.  
  •  Pour the mixture into popsicle moulds, insert the sticks, and freeze for at least 6 hours or overnight.  
  •  Run popsicle moulds under warm water until the pops loosen, and then remove.  

5. Honey Lemonade Pops:  

Ingredients:

  •  1 cup lemon juice  
  •  1/2 cup honey  
  • 1½ cup water  
  • Edible flowers (optional)  

Method:  

  •  In a small saucepan add honey, water and simmer until honey is reduced to half and melted.    
  • In a container with a spout, add lemon juice and honey.   
  •  Pour into popsicles moulds and add edible flowers.  
  •  Place sticks in and freeze them overnight.  
  • Serve these sweet surprise to your family to make their day happier.
