The benefits of aliv seeds or ‘Halim beej’ – as they are commonly known – have been a part of our ‘nani and dadi ke nuskhe’. Touted as a superfood, aliv seeds are beneficial for your overall health and optimal growth during your teenage and puberty. Not only this, they can provide nourishment for your overall reproductive health, especially when you’re trying to make babies! 

Aliv seeds, also known as garden cress seeds, may help a great deal during your pre and post pregnancy period. These super seeds are even a boon for new mothers as they may help them regain strength and tighten the uterus after all the wear and tear it goes through. Moreover, aliv seeds may help repair skin problems and boost your hair growth and put an end to chronic hair fall. These seeds are a great immunity booster too.

Rujuta Diwekar, celebrity fitness expert and Nutritionist, recently took to Instagram to share the benefits of aliv seeds and a recipe for lip-smacking  laddoos.

Sharing her mother Rekha Diwekar’s recipe for these aliv seeds laddoos, Diwekar captioned  her post: “Aliv, the secret beauty pill, in the form of a laddoo, ideally, along with coconut, jaggery, and ghee. Rolled with bare hands, with love in your heart and smile on your lips.”

Before we tell you more about the benefits of aliv seeds, let’s take a peek into the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup Aliv/ halim seeds/ Garden cress seeds
  • ½ cup coconut water
  • 1 cup palm jaggery
  • 1.5 cup grated coconut
  • 2 tbsp ghee

Method of preparation:

  1. Take ½ cup Aliv seeds in a bowl and mix coconut water in it. (Only enough to soak the seeds)
  2. Stir the mixture. If the water gets absorbed by the seeds, add more coconut water or milk.
  3. Heat a wok and add the soaked seeds and grated coconut.
  4. Once the color turns golden, add jaggery. You may add more as per your taste.
  5. Mix it well. If it dries off, add more coconut water or milk. Cook it on low flame for 30 mins.
  6. In a pan, add about 3-4 tbsp of desi ghee, and add the prepared mixture and cook, till it dries completely.
  7. Hand roll the ladoos Once the mixture cools down.
  8. Enjoy everyday with tea or as a snack.

 Aliv seeds, according to Diwekar, are great for a person at every age and stage of life.
