Godfather: A Duo Cocktail That Will Surely Impress You To Bits

Godfather is a mixed drink that is made by fusing together liquors that are scotch whiskey and amaretto. Amaretto is an Italian liquor that is a must in the making of this cocktail as it gives the desirable sweet yet subtle flavour to this drink. This duo cocktail takes us back to the old days when it was invented which is probably assumed in the early 19th century. If you take a look at some of the oldest cocktails that exist around the world, you will come to notice that most of the old cocktails usually have unclear origins, same goes with our cocktail, Godfather. Unfortunately, just as the origin of the place of this drink is unknown, the story behind who came up with such a strange name for this cocktail is also not proved or disclosed till now. However, the classic Italian Amaretto brand, Disaronno claims that an American actor named Marlon Brando was immensely fond of drinking this cocktail as it was considered to be one of his favorite drinks to sip on. Marlon Brando was well- known for playing the titular character in a popular American film adaption of Mario Puzo’s ‘The Godfather’, which saliently featured the Italian mob. All this may be an allusion to the cocktail’s use of amaretto and also helped in giving a rise to this drink. A Godfather is typically served on the rocks and poured over many ice cubes in an old-fashioned glass. It's time you revive your senses and taste buds by preparing this old-fashioned cocktail by yourself and savour the boozy flavour of it.

Here’s how you can make this 2-ingredient cocktail at home.

Ingredients:

  • 30ml whiskey
  • 30ml amaretto

Steps in the making-

  • Take a chilled glass filled with ice cubes and pour both the liquers one after another.
  • Stir gently and mix well.
  • There you go, your godfather is ready to serve and relish.

Takeaway tip- Instead of taking equal parts of both the liquors, you can also prepare it in a one-to-two ratio of amaretto to whiskey.
