FSSAI Certifies 150 Indian Railway Stations With ‘Eat Right’ Tag

There is good news for regular train travellers, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Thursday has certified 150 railway stations across India as "Eat Right Stations". This initiative is a part of the food safety authority’s Eat Right movement which prioritises ensuring safe, hygienic and nutritious food to be available in colleges, institutions, workplaces and hospitals.

As per the official statement, “Till date 150 railway stations across the country have been certified as Eat Right Stations, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of the Eat Right India movement, ensuring safe, hygienic and nutritious food options for millions of passengers who traverse the country’s vast railway network.”

The procedure of “Eat Right Station” certification involves proper audits of food vendors, training of food handlers and strict regulations on hygiene and sanitation protocols. FSSAI even encourages efforts to raise awareness among individuals to make the right food choices. Those stations which fulfil these stringent criteria are awarded the "Eat Right Station" certification.

Some of the prominent stations that have been awarded the “Eat Right” certificate include railway stations in New Delhi, Varanasi, Kolkata, Ujjain, Ayodhya Cantt, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Kozhikode, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Vadodra, Mysuru City, Bhopal Delhi’s Anand Vihar Terminal and Chennai’s Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central.

“Six pioneering metro stations across the country have also joined the effort and have been accredited as Eat Right Stations. Among these are Metro Stations at Noida Sector 51, Esplanade (Kolkata), IIT Kanpur, Botanical Garden (Noida) and Noida Electronic City Metro Station,” the FSSAI statement further added.

The amazing initiative by the food safety authority will not only benefit passengers but also support food vendors at railway stations. By following the food safety and hygiene standards, the vendors will gain credibility among customers, ultimately boosting their business.

“FSSAI remains committed to further expanding the “Eat Right Station” program. The aim is to encompass all major railway stations and Metro stations, ensuring every passenger, regardless of their destination, can enjoy safe and healthy food options throughout their journey”, concluded the statement.
