What Is A Fried Egg Salad?

Traditionally, an egg salad requires boiling, cooling, peeling, and chopping eggs. These chopped eggs are then added to a mixing bowl. Mayonnaise, grated or diced onions, mustard, ground pepper, and salt are added to it. This is mixed until the desired consistency is reached. You may add more pepper, salt, or mustard as per your taste, and the egg salad is ready. This is served cold. But we are here for the crispy and warm version of the original egg salad, the fried egg salad. This dish requires no boiling, cooling, or egg peeling, which is the most tedious and time-consuming part of the original recipe.

Take the eggs and other ingredients to start with the recipe. You will need a frying pan to fry the eggs evenly with the vegetables or meat of your choice. We present to you the recipe for one serving.

Ingredients

  • 2-3 teaspoons of butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • Ham, chopped (if you would like to add meat)
  • Pepper
  • Salt as required
  • Mayonnaise
  • Finely chopped onions and coriander

Method

  • Crack 3 large eggs in a bowl. Leave it aside. This step helps you in adding the eggs together.
  • Slice onions. Cut your ham bite-sized (include this step if you want to add meat). Heat the non-stick frying pan on medium heat.
  • Add 2-3 teaspoons of butter and let it melt completely.
  • Add the sliced onions and ham together. Cook the onions till they are translucent and the ham is crispy.
  • Turn the heat to medium-low. Add the eggs slowly and evenly around the frying pan.
  • Cover the pan with a lid or aluminium foil and cook the eggs using frying and steaming.
  • You may look a couple of times to check the consistency of the eggs and turn off the heat when the consistency is to your liking.
  • Slide the eggs with onions and ham into a mixing bowl. Chop these with scissors.
  • Add in the finely diced onions and coriander. Add in mayonnaise, pepper, and salt.
  • Mix gently, and your fried egg salad is ready.

Tips For This Elevated Egg Salad In A Frying Pan

  • Prepare the eggs, all vegetables and/or meat, and condiments in advance; once fried, this salad comes together quickly.
  • Cracking all the eggs in a mixing bowl and not directly into the frying pan allows you to steam-fry the eggs at the same rate.
  • Have this salad warm to get the best taste.
  • The texture may be a little softer and runny compared to the traditional egg salad, which is with hard-boiled eggs.

Variations

  • You may serve it warm on toasted sliced bread.
  • Options for crunchy vegetables include celery, pickled cucumbers, grated carrots or cabbage.
  • To elevate the spicy kick, you may add Dijon mustard or even spicy mayonnaise, which is just mayonnaise with Siracha or tabasco sauce.
  • Soft herbs such as celery, parsley, and chives can be added.
  • Prefer to have it cold? Then chill it in your fridge for thirty minutes or longer.
  • You may add cheese. Add it to the eggs whilst cooking or grate it and mix it with the salad.

Fried egg salad is a warm, wholesome dish and takes less time than boiling an egg and preparing the traditional egg salad recipe. To prepare this upgraded version, all you need is just the right ingredient in the right amount and a frying pan. So, try it out and enjoy it with your near and dear ones.
