With the beginning of Shravan Maas, i.e. the Sawan month, 'Bol Bam' slogans start being raised on the road. But do you know Shravan Maas also brings a complete ban on certain food items? Apart from non-veg, eating vegetables like green vegetables, brinjal, and even drinking milk is forbidden. But why? Let us talk about this today and understand why it is prohibited to consume five things in this month.

Milk

Milk is very healthy, and doctors recommend drinking it daily. But it is said to avoid milk in Sawan. Why so?

  • Religious belief: The month of Sawan is considered the month of Lord Shiva, and milk is offered to Shivling every day; that is why it is forbidden to drink milk during this time.
  • Scientific belief: But scientifically, it is also forbidden to drink milk in this month. Because this month brings a lot of rain in which cows eat worms or rotten grass leaves that may contain many germs. In such a situation, milk is not as healthy as it is on regular days. Hence it is forbidden to drink milk in this month.

Meat and fish

Meat and fish are not eaten during Sawan. In Hinduism, there are many religious reasons behind it. At the same time, scientifically, fish is not consumed during the monsoon because this is the season when fish lay eggs (which can be harmful to humans). On the other hand, chicken and mutton are not digested well, causing an upset stomach. Hence, due to all these reasons, one should avoid meat and fish in Sawan.

Green vegetables

Green vegetables are also forbidden in Sawan month. This is because mosquitoes and flies spread a lot in the rain. Apart from this, there are also many germs in green vegetables which causes stomach and skin diseases. Therefore, to stay away from them, it is said to avoid green vegetables in the month of Sawan.
