Food Safety: Know How Dairy Products Are Quality Checked

With recent claims of adulteration of spices from well-known companies like MDH and Everest, food safety is a major worry. The regulating authorities now intend to examine a range of food items, including milk, fresh vegetables, and more. Considering these concerns, we talked with Doodhvale's CEO and co-founder, Aman J. Jain, about the extensive safety procedures that dairy firm employs to guarantee the best possible hygiene and quality standards.

Why Quality Check

For a number of reasons, it is essential to do quality checks on your dairy products at home. In the first place, it works to preserve your health and well-being by ensuring that the items you eat are risk-free and devoid of any pollutants. This is especially important in view of current concerns over the adulteration of food, since home testing gives you the opportunity to check the genuineness and purity of the items. This will ultimately lead to a better lifestyle for you and your family, as you will have peace of mind and trust in the items you eat, which you will gain by taking care of quality inspections at home.

Aman J Jain says, “At Doodhvale, we follow a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that outlines every step of our monthly production process. This SOP covers various aspects such as cattle handling, feeding procedures, calving practices, cattle treatment protocols, hygiene maintenance, and socialisation practices. It also includes guidelines for insemination, milk storage, and milk handling procedures. These detailed protocols ensure we maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and quality throughout our production process.”

He explains that maintaining these standards requires meticulous attention to detail. “To ensure we stick to these standards, we regularly check each and everything through our set checklists to identify any gaps or mistakes and rectify them. This regular inspection focuses on both internal and external parameters, from how we handle cows and feed quality to the quality of milk products, “ he adds.

Not just this, Quality assurance at Doodhvale involves rigorous testing at various stages of production. “Rigorous testing is conducted at multiple stages of the production process to verify the quality of the milk. This testing begins at the source farm, continues at our facility, and includes internal laboratory tests. Additionally, we offer customers do-it-yourself testing kits to enable them to validate the purity of the final product themselves, ensuring transparency and confidence in our product quality.”

Jain highlights the transparency and thoroughness of their process, “We make sure we follow all the rules carefully, check things inside our company often, and test our products extensively to ensure they're clean and good from beginning to end.”

Direct Farm-to-Customer Model

One of the critical aspects of ensuring product safety at Doodhvale is their unique distribution model. Jain states, “In traditional milk distribution models, where middlemen collect milk from different cattle farmers and deliver it to the customers, this sometimes leads to problems like adulteration of milk and uncertainty about its purity. But at Doodhvale, we've adopted a different business model.”

He explains the advantages of their approach: “We sell our products directly from farms to customers without the involvement of any middlemen. This allows us to have control over the entire supply chain, from production to delivery, and minimizes the risk of adulteration practices. We use sealed trucks and packages to ensure a tamper-proof supply chain, keeping everything safe and secure at all ends.”

Multiple Rounds of Testing

To maintain the integrity of their products, Doodhvale conducts multiple rounds of testing. “We conduct multiple rounds of testing throughout the production and distribution chain. We test the milk when it is produced at the farm, then again when it is packed, and finally from random samples of the final lot of products before sending them for final distribution.”

Educating and Engaging Customers

To build trust and educate customers, Doodhvale leverages various communication channels. Jain states, “Our main goal is to educate, inform, and reassure our customers about the quality of the product we are delivering. We use social media for customer engagement and trust-building by uploading video clips of all farm activities and production processes transparently.”

Doodhvale provides real-time quality assurance through their app, “We provide daily lab test reports of our milk on our app, allowing customers to see the quality for themselves. For added assurance, customers can order a DIY milk test kit from our app. This DRDO-certified kit lets them verify the authenticity and purity of our products. Subscribed customers even get one free test kit, so they can test the product's authenticity with confidence.”

In an era where food safety concerns are paramount, one should be aware of the products they are using and follow rigorous quality control measures.
