With the scorching heat outside, it is important to consume dry fruits not only to satiate your hunger but also to provide nourishment and hydration. Among the many dry fruits available on the market, the one that attracts attention is the fig. Dried figs have a soft, luscious texture accompanied by crunchy seeds. They have been enjoyed for centuries, and they are one of the most common fruits of the summer season. However, dried figs are available all year. 

Dried figs can be included in the diet for a healthy lifestyle. They are loaded with dietary fibre, potassium, magnesium, and vitamins K and B6. They are also rich in antioxidants, which can help fight free radicals and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Besides, they are a good source of natural sugar, thus making them an eligible alternative to refined sugars. 

Now the question is whether you can have dried versions of figs or anjeer in the summer season or not. It is advisable to consume them in moderation during the summer months. It may be advisible to consume it in moderation during summers or instead eat fresh figs as opposed to dried anjeer.

  • Heat Sensitivity   

Figs are perishable foods that can be sensitive to heat. Owing to the presence of natural sugar, they are prone to fermentation, thus leading to spoilage in hot weather. Thus, it should be stored effectively and consumed properly during the summer months. 

  • High Sugar Content   

Compared to fresh figs, dried ones have a higher sugar content. The drying process removes the extra water from the fruit, yielding a more concentrated form of sugar. Consuming large amounts of figs in hot weather may raise blood sugar levels, causing an imbalance in diabetics or those who want to keep a check on the sugar content. 

  • Improper Digestion   

Due to the removal of water in dried figs, they have a higher fibre content than fresh figs. Although fibre is good for consumption, excessive consumption of dried figs can lead to improper digestion, bloating, and even diarrhoea. Make sure to consume figs in moderation and keep yourself hydrated to avoid any digestive discomfort during the hot weather. 

  • Minimal Hydration   

Unlike fresh figs, which have an ample amount of water content, dried figs lack moisture. Relying solely on dried figs can cause dehydration due to their low water content. Thus, it is advisable to consume fresh figs or any other hydrating fruit during the summer.
