Ghee and Indian food are an inseparable combination. From a simple dal to winter staples like sarson ka saag, parathas, and so much more, ghee finds its way across countless Indian meals. We love to use generous amounts of ghee, be it in a sweet treat like halwa or in chutneys and curries as well. Besides making every dish a tad bit delicious, ghee has several health benefits, which many experts have been stressing of late.

Ghee is known to be a source of good fat, benefit intestinal health, be a great source of energy, and much more. Health coach Digvijay Singh recently reminded us of the power of ghee as he shared a video on Instagram demonstrating a quick recipe made with ghee. Ever tried spicy ghee? Well, here’s his recipe for ghee that will not just help you improve digestion but also build immunity.

  • 2 tsp ghee
  • 1 pinch of black pepper
  • 2–3 saffron strands
  • 1/2 tsp of saunf or fennel seeds
  • 1 elaichi
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric

  • Mix black pepper, cardamom, saunf, saffron strands, and turmeric with ghee.
  • Store it in an air-tight container. Have 1 to 2 tablespoons every day.

According to Singh, you can eat ghee on its own or mix it with milk or food. If you have a cold, consume ghee with warm milk. This will be beneficial during the cold winter months when your body is more susceptible to coughs and the seasonal flu. Ghee is known to be great for joint health, good digestion, good cholesterol, and improving skin and hair health. It is also anti-inflammatory.

The ingredients in this spicy ghee recipe come with their own set of health benefits. Pepper enhances the absorption of the antioxidants present in turmeric, besides being great for immunity and digestion. Turmeric itself is an amazing anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral spice. It improves brain function and supports joint health. On the other hand, fennel seeds (saunf) help when you have bloating or digestive issues, while cardamom improves digestion and oral health and facilitates sleep.
