1 cup poppy seeds
1 cup milk or soy milk
1 cup unsalted butter or margarine, plus more for greasing pan
2 cups all-purpose flour, plus additional for dusting pan
2 cups sugar
3 large eggs, separated
2 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp salt
2½ tsp baking powder

Mix the milk and poppy seeds in a small saucepan. Once it reaches a boil, remove it from the fire and let it sit for 20 minutes to cool down. Make sure your oven is preheated at 350 degrees and that you have a large loaf or tube pan that has been greased with margarine and lightly dusted with flour.
