Easter is one of the most significant Christian holidays celebrated across the world. The day observes the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The date of Easter is determined by the lunar calendar, and this year it falls on April 9. Easter celebrations usually begin on Ash Wednesday, which is known as the start of the season of Lent. It is a forty-day period of fasting and penance where Christians reflect on their sins, seek forgiveness, and show their devotion to God.
The week leading up to Easter Sunday is known as "Holy Week" and is the most significant period in the Christian calendar. Easter Sunday comes after Good Friday, which marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and is a day of mourning and reflection. To observe the day, devotees attend church services, sing hymns, and exchange greetings of "Happy Easter" with one another on the following Sunday. One of the most popular parts of Easter is the Easter egg. Eggs are believed to represent new life, and the tradition of decorating and distributing eggs has been around for years. Nowadays, people decorate eggs with bright colours, patterns, and designs and give them as gifts to friends and family.
Another tradition of Easter Sunday is enjoying a lavish dinner with loved ones. People invite their family and friends and treat them to several delectable dishes. Some of the traditional foods enjoyed on this feast are seafood, roasted meat, desserts, and wine. Roasted lamb, carrots, cooked ham, hot cross buns, eggs, and breads are some important dishes served on the Easter dinner table. The dessert menu of this festival includes cakes, puddings, tarts, and pies.
