Draupadi Murmu Treats French President To Indian Feast At Dinner

On the night of Republic Day, president of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron was hosted at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by Draupadi Murmu for dinner. The banquet-style meal, which was a display of India’s rich and diverse culinary traditions, celebrated the exchange of Indian and French culture as well as friendship. As the two presidents were seen engaged in conversation, the dinner in honour of this year’s Republic Day parade chief guest, was an all-vegetarian feast.

The meal, which started off with a kesar-badam shorba, included multiple delicacies like the chhena paturi, achaari aloo kumbh, anjeer kofta, bagan-e-subz, sarson ka saag, jeera aloo and dal dera – which were accompaniments to subz pulao, makke ki roti, naan, pudina paratha and raita. This is besides the dessert menu, which included a fusion dessert called the Phirni Mille Feuille, gajar nazakat – a delicacy of carrot halwa in dark chocolate cups, covered with milk fudge. Carved fresh fruits, Kashmiri kahwa and coffee were also served to conclude the meal.

Macron, who was on a two-day visit to India, was previously seen enjoying the sights of the roadshow in Jaipur, where he was welcomed by PM Modi. Following a cup of kulhad chai and dinner at the legendary Rambagh Palace, the president was seen escorted by Murmu in Delhi on Republic Day, in an English-style horse carriage at the parade. Macron was also given a warm welcome by a luxury hotel in Delhi, where the staff created an array of chocolate and other edible arrangements for the president to enjoy.
