We can’t think of a better time than cozy yet chilly weather to take a bite of nutty chikkis at home. We begin to have an uncontrollable craving for chikki especially during the winter season as the combination of various nuts, dry fruits and jaggery warms up our bodies and boosts up our immunity. Chikki is a beloved Indian sweet that is made using several mixed nuts such as almonds, cashew, pistachios, peanuts, and also sesame seeds, all these are together coated in a jaggery syrup and finally rolled up in a desired shape and size. Chikkis are undoubtedly nutritious, hearty, healthy and indeed delightful in taste making them a perfect treat for munching or for satisfying our sugar cravings. So are you planning to get your hands on making these irresistible crunchy yet gooey winter staples at home? Here are a few tips that you must always consider while making a batch of homemade chikkis.

1. Perfect Jaggery syrup consistency is the key

Getting the perfect consistency of the jaggery syrup is the first and foremost step to be considered while making chikkis a home. One must always keep in mind not to add too much water while making syrup as about two-three tablespoons of water is enough and ideal. The consistency of the jaggery syrup should be thick instead of being stringy.

2. Add nuts right after the jaggery syrup is ready

You must always pour the nuts into the jaggery syrup straight away when it's hot. This step is important as once the jaggery syrup cools down, it becomes gooey, and combining the nuts and dry fruits at that point can be difficult to stir and thus won’t mix well properly.

3. Roll the mixture thinly

It is always recommended to keep rolling the mixture till it becomes plain and thin. Rolling it thinly makes it easier to cut down into pieces and also helps it give it the desired shape.
