Chorizo Trail: The Best Places For The Indo-Portuguese Sausage In Goa

If you’ve been to Goa and snacked on choriz pao, you know the appeal of the Indo-Portuguese pork sausage. Chorizo is so deeply entrenched in the food culture of Goa that even tourists can’t stop themselves from buying them in bulk and carrying them home. If you’re a fan of the sausage too, here’s where to find the best ones in Goa:

Clube Nacional Restaurant

Clube National has been around for years and is especially known for its choriz pao. The chouriz pao here is made using a special choriz paste and also contains caramelised onions and garlic. It’s a spicy, vinegary snack that a lot of people end up taking away. 

Location: Vaglo Building, MG Road, Near Municipal Garden, Altinho, Panaji, Goa.

Timings: Monday-Saturday, 12-3pm; 7-11pm.

Ludo’s Meals On Wheels

Ludo’s Meals On Wheels is a food truck that can be found outside the Cavelossim church. It is named after the owner, Ludo. The choriz pao here is very popular and the meat is made in-house. One portion comes at the humble price of ₹60. 

Location: Near Cavelossim, Goa.

Timings: Everyday except Friday, 5-10pm.

Run by a husband and wife duo, Valanka Fast Food is a sort of beach shack that sells Goan snacks. The choriz pao here is deemed the best in Goa and has just the right balance of spice and vinegar. The pao is prepared over a wood fire and has a characteristic taste. 

Location: House no. 93, 2nd Ward, Colva, Goa.

Timings: Daily, 8.30am-9.30pm.

Cheryl Bar & Restaurant

Cheryl Bar & Restaurant in Curtorim serves high quality chorizo with pao. It is a cosy place that also serves alcohol so order your choriz pao accompanied by a drink. Besides the choriz pao, try the sorpotel and beef cutlet.

Location: Curtorim-Macasana-Modcai Road, Macasana, Goa.

Timings: Everyday except Thursday, 11am-11pm. Sunday, 24 hours.

Pinto’s Bar & Restaurant

A hole-in-the-wall bar in Panjim, Pinto’s is known for its chorizo pulao and feni. It’s a street side bar that’s very popular with locals who visit for drinks accompanied by their favourite dishes. Also try the choriz pao and salted tongue.
